Man Jumps From A Moving Plane As It Taxied Along The Runway

A man leapt from a moving aircraft as it taxied along a runway in Malaysia, sparking panic among passengers as emergency measures activated.

Air Asia flight AK 5187 was on a routine domestic flight from Miri to Kuala Lumpur when the runway drama unfolded. Furious passengers had their journey delayed for over an hour as a result of the man's sudden, emphatic decision not to remain on the plane until take off.

A witness told the Asia News Network that the man suddenly tore open the emergency door and jumped from the jet as it made its way to the runway. 'The raft automatically opened. Other passengers started screaming. The plane was brought to a halt,' said flight passenger Siva Nathiran.

Captain Datuk Mazputra, Air Asia's regional head of flight operations, told the agency the aircraft had just begun taxiing towards its takeoff spot when the passenger sprang from his seat and bolted towards the emergency exit. 'There were no injuries and the passenger was arrested,' he told Asia News Network.

The man, believed to be in his mid-20s was taken to Miri hospital. It is understood, however, that he suffered no injuries as a result of his fall. Police are still piecing together the details of the incident, said Miri police chief Assistant Commissioner Mun Kok Keong.
