Police quiz Akoko Monarch Over Alleged Rape

Police in Ondo State, weekend, quizzed the traditional ruler of Supare Akoko in Akoko South- West Local Government Area of the state, Oba Kasali Adedeji, over alleged attempted rape.

Oba Adedeji was quizzed at the Criminal Investigation Department,CID, of the Police over the allegation levelled at him by one Mrs. Comfort Awogbami last May 4.

But police spokesman, Mr. Adeniran Aremu, said the monarch was only invited for interrogation.

Aremu said Adedeji was neither arrested nor detained as being speculated in the town.

Awogbami  is standing trial at Supare Magistrate’s Court alongside the monarch’s wife, Olori Sherifat Adedeji, for engaging in public brawl  and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

She has, however, petitioned the Commissioner of Police, alleging bias in the handling of the case at the Divisional Police Station level.

According to her, instead of the police charging the monarch to court for attempted rape, she was charged with affray alongside the monarch’s wife.

She thereafter wrote a letter of protest to the Commissioner of Police, asking him to intervene in the matter, alleging that the monarch attempted to rape her in his wife’s apartment.

Awogbami said: ”Kabiyesi invited me to his wife’s apartment on the said date about 8 p.m. On getting there, he was alone. He asked me if I ever knew my husband was having an affair with his wife, an allegation which I had no knowledge of.

“He informed me that he would like to do same with me. Thinking he was joking, the Kabiyesi went on to hold me and assaulted me, stripped me naked until I raised alarm which drew the attention of the neighbours who trooped in to rescue me from his hands. His wife was not  at home as that time.

“When I went down, I fainted and was admitted at the General Hospital, Iwaro-Oka, same night and discharged the following day.”

Awogbamila said the case was reported at the Police station but that the District Police Officer mounted pressure on her to drop the case.

However, she said she was surprised when she was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court for public fight with the monarch’s wife.
