The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Steven Lawani, at the weekend tried to allay the fears of possible attacks in various parts of the state.
The Deputy Governor made a statement at a press briefing in the capital of the State, Makurdi.
He said the rumours milling around the town about Boko Haram incursion and the abduction of certain people from churches were not true.
Mr. Lawani assured the people of their safety and urged them to go about their businesses without fear of molestation as security measures has been increased in troubled areas to avoid break down of law and order.
The Deputy Governor, who confirmed the killing of people in some villages in Ukum Local Government Area by unknown gunmen, said only 13 deaths were recorded and not 30 as reported in the media.
“Some of the stories being published are not true and they paint a wrong security situation in the state. There is no breakdown of peace, Benue remains very peaceful and all is well”, he said.
Mr. Lawani also added that the government is doing everything possible in cooperation with security agencies to ensure safety of lives and property in all parts of the state.
