Members of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Board of Trustees were yesterday surprised by the sudden appearance of former president Olusegun Obasanjo at the meeting of the board which held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa. The meeting would be the first since Obasanjo resigned as the chairman of the BOT.
The meeting, according to a dependable source, was called to formally inform other members of the board of the resignation of Obasanjo and to set modalities for the election of a new chairman.
There were also indications that the Presidency may be disposed towards retaining the former president as the BOT chairman as the PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has consistently maintained that he is yet to receive the resignation letter of the former president. The sudden arrival of Obasanjo before the meeting shocked members who were interested in vying for the position as they were not sure if the former president may change his mind.
Secretary of the BOT, Senator Walid Jibrin, could not be reached for comments. The meeting however continued behind closed-doors as at the time of filing this report.
