Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi Defects To PDP

Ex Anambra State governor Peter Obi has defected from The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The politician announced the decision today, October 7, following the motion by PDP caucus leaders from the South East zone who visited Obi yesterday to lure him into the PDP, Vanguard reports.

The motion was said to have been suggested by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, moved by PDP ex Chairman Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo and seconded by the Minister of Labour and Productivity Yesom Wike.

Addressing Obi, Nwodo said:

"We are here to request you to join us in PDP and work with us as an insider no more an outsider. PDP was founded by our own man, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and we started winning 80 percent in the Southeast zone until such a time when we drew backwards but we believe that with you in our midst, we shall return to our winning spree. I now move a motion requesting you to here and now give us your word."

Before the motion was raised PDP  National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh claimed that President Goodluck Jonathan and party seniors were interested in having Obi around.

Responding to the calls and explanations provided by the PDP representatives, Obi with gratitude made a decision to accept the motion adding that he would be eager to work with them as an insider and to support Jonathan for re-election.

The former governor's quit from the APGA did not cause scandal within the party, as its board of trustees representative Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka explained that it was any member's right to chose another party.
