They were among the 153 passengers and crew that died when a Dana Air flight from Abuja to Lagos crashed into four residential buildings in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos.

Several others were also killed when the plane plunged into a two-storey building.

Some of the eight CBN staff who died are Amiaka Rapheal and Antonia Attu, senior managers; Bamaiyi Adamu, a Senior

Supervisor and Falmata Kur Muhammed, an Assistant Director.

Family members of CBN staff are Alhaji Shehu Usman, Mrs. Thelma Mojekwu, Dr. Elizabeth Omukuzua, Mrs. Ruth Wasa and her daughter, Hope Wasa.

Speaking on the occasion, CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi, said, “June 3 is a day that will be hard for the bank and the country to forget.”

He said it was unfortunate that such a thing happened to the country, adding, “This kind of situation reminds us of our transit on earth.”

He stated, “I was on that same plane few days before the incident and we witnessed loss of altitude while trying to land and people were crying. “I remember saying that the aircraft was not good. Let us remember that as we do what we do in life, fighting, backbiting and the like, that death is by the corner.

“It could be anyone of us. The death of our loved ones should be a lesson for us as we do everything.”

The CBN boss further advised those in charge of protecting lives and property to strive to live up to expectations.

He prayed that the country would not witness such an incident again and called on the aviation authorities to ensure strict supervision in the industry.

The apex bank presented wreaths of honour to representatives of the families of the deceased.
