The People’s Democratic Party candidate for the governor of Edo state, General Charles Airhiavbere (ret) lost his ward to the incumbent governor, Governor Adams Oshiomhole. Result declared at the Garrick memorial School, Oredo Ward 1 units 18, 19, 20, 20 where Gen. Charles Airiavbere (Rtd) voted suggest that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) beat the PDP with an astronomical margin.
In unit 20, the PDP’s Candidate polled a total of 38 votes as against ACN’s 360. The ANPP got 2 votes while 33 were declared invalid.
In unit 19, PDP polled 32 while Oshiomhole’s ACN got 254. ANPP again got 2 while 1 vote was declared invalid.
In Unit 18, also in the same centre, Airhiavbere’s PDP got 65 votes while ACN scored 351 votes. ANPP and Labour Party got 1 vote each while 7 votes were voided.
Lastly in unit 21, the PDP scored 33 votes while the ACN got 270 votes. The ANPP got 2 votes, CPC, 1 and LP nil.
A summation of the results from the Centre showed that Charles Airhiavbere of PDP scored a total of 168 votes while ACN’s Adams Oshiomhole got 1,275, ANPP’s Solomon Edebiri got 4 votes and LP 1.
The PDP’s candidate who earlier told newsmen that the polls were free and fair in his unit however stormed out before the result was announcement.
Similarly, at Oba Akenzua Primary School housing Units, 22, 23, 24 and 25, the PDP’s candidate appeared to have been beaten convincingly. PDP received 50 votes as against ACN’s 756. The ANPP got 2 votes from the Centre while the remaining political parties got nothing.
The election was generally peaceful, free, fair and credible in the area as voters stayed behind to monitor the collation and counting of votes.
