NAFDAC Arrests Man For Selling Unregistered Chinese Drugs

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has nabbed a Cameroonian, Justin Sitamze, who specializes in selling unregistered Chinese drugs.

NAFDAC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Anslem Okonkwor, told Daily Trust in Osogbo that Sitamze, who claims to be a doctor, was arrested at his clinic situated within the central mosque premises in Ajegunle area of Lagos State by a team of operatives from the Enforcement Directorate Department of the agency. Okonkwor said NAFDAC operatives acted on a tip-off, and that after a successful surveillance of the area, the officials swooped on the premises and caught the suspect right in the act with three of his staff.

Also speaking, the Director of Enforcement, Mr. Garba Macdonald said the suspect was operating an illegal clinic by carrying out consultations and tests on patients using electronic medical devices. He said his officers have been on the suspect’s trail for sometime following information from members of the public. He added that the drugs have been confiscated and sampled against him for further investigation by the police, who have taken custody of him.

Macdonald, who said that the drugs recovered from the illegal clinic were labelled in Chinese language without English interpretations, warned that their quality could not be guaranteed by NAFDAC for human consumption.

In his statement, the suspect, Sitamze, admitted to the crime, but maintained that he was trained in China and licensed as a trado-medical practitioner.
