U.S.-Nigerian Foundation Condemns Needless Spending During Delta House of Assembly U.S.A. Visit

In a statement, the Umu-Anioma Foundation, a geopolitical socio-cultural organization with offices in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A and Asaba, Delta state, Nigeria, expressed “utter shock, total disapproval and rejection” of what it called “Delta State reckless extravaganza” currently going on at the Goldman School of Public Policy, University of California.

“We acknowledge the fact that in the course of the dispensation of a civic duty, private or public, some kinds of refresher capacity building or leadership trainings are necessary, especially when the new acquired knowledge ushers in value-added achievement to the receiver and then leads to the enhancement of development of the sending community,” the statement said.

“But with a benefit of hindsight, from the sordid practices in the Nigeria polity, such purported trainings overseas by Nigeria's political stakeholders, ranging from the presidency down to the local government, are not known to have yielded any positive result for the masses.”

Citing examples of similar recklessness in Nigeria’s political history, the group dismissed the trip to California by members of the Delta legislature as simply another vacation extravaganza for a few privileged ones as a decoy to squander public funds.

“We see these off-shore training courses as the vampire of vanity club, used to suck funds out for the benefit of a few. Umu-Anioma Foundation cannot just sit and watch this flagrant rape of our chequered democracy.”

It called on the state government to urgently order a halt of the “public show of shame and publish, without delay, how much of the people's tax money has been pumped into this summer holiday extravaganza.”

It also called on the people of Delta to speak up massively against the matter.

Publishing contact information of the American institutions involved, the Foundation said, “We also encourage them to take photographs of primary and secondary schools, hospitals, streets and roads in their villages, towns and send to the California University and hotels where the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei and his fellow holiday makers are busy spoiling themselves, so as to tell the world how shameless and insensitive these folks are.”

RAPE OF DEMOCRACY!

UMU ANIOMA FOUNDATION CONDEMNS DELTA STATE RECKLESS EXTRAVAGANZA

Asaba, Delta State- August 8, 2013

The convener, Board of Trustees (BoT) and entire members of Umu-Anioma Foundation Inc, wish to express our utter shock, total disapproval and rejection of the on-going so-called "Capacity building Leadership course" at the Goldman School of Public Policy, University of California, the USA, by some members of the Delta state House of Assembly, led by the speaker of the House, Hon. Mr. Victor Ochei.

We acknowledge the fact that in the course of the dispensation of a civic duty, private or public, some kinds of refresher capacity building or leadership trainings are necessary, especially when the new acquired knowledge ushers in value-added achievement to the receiver and then leads to the enhancement of development of the sending community.

But with a benefit of hindsight, from the sordid practices in the Nigeria polity, such purported trainings overseas by Nigeria's political stakeholders, ranging from the presidency down to the local government, are not known to have yielded any positive result for the masses.

Under the Shagari administration, Federal legislatures undertook a similar disgraceful trip to the London Parliament only to spill the acquired strange recipe not long after they returned.

We have observed that a couple of years ago, a local government in Delta state squandered an incredible amount, sending a party of government vain-glorious holiday-makers to a similar course in South Africa, local government teachers were on an indefinite strike demanding for a minimumN18,000.00 per month pay check, which the government refused to accept. Today, the local government's inept managerial skills remain mournful as they spend time enriching their pockets at the detriment of the electorate.

We, therefore, believe that this is just another vacation extravaganza for a few privileged ones, as a decoy to squander public fund. We see these off-shore training courses as the vampire of vanity club, used to suck funds out for the benefit of a few. Umu-Anioma Foundation cannot just sit and watch this flagrant rape of our chequered democracy.

The theme of the training; "Prepare members further for the challenges ahead", as adduced by the organizers, is nothing but another common alibi by dictators and inept politicians. But Aniomas and theDeltans have come a long way and are weary of this recurrent abuse of office which even as the masses continue to gripe under their misrule. We unequivocally disapprove of this recklessness and demand an abrupt end to the senseless of these spendthrifts, otherwise entrusted with our future.

As concerned citizens of this land and as a body devoted to elevating our shared moral values, we call on the Delta State Government to urgently order a halt to this public show of shame and publish, without delay, how much of the people's tax money has been pumped into this summer holiday extravaganza,

Likewise we call on the people of Delta to speak up massively against this great evil. We also encourage them to take photographs of primary and secondary schools, hospitals, streets and roads in their villages, towns and send to the California University and hotels where the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei and his fellow holiday makers are busy spoiling themselves, so as to tell the world how shameless and insensitive these folks are.
