Abuja Police Seize Housegirl, Accomplice for Kidnapping 18-month-old Baby

The police also arraigned her accomplice, Samuel Ogbole, a 45-year-old driver residing at Gbesa Village on Airport Road, Abuja.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Andrew Aithenede, told the court that the mother of the kidnapped baby, Mrs. Cynthia Ugwaona of Babangida Road, FHA, Lugbe, Abuja, reported the matter at the Lugbe Divisional Police station on June 26.

He said that Ugwaona told the police that the accused kidnapped her 18-month-old baby and took her to an unknown place.

Aithenede said that the second accused, Ogbole, was being charged for conspiracy to kidnapping because he introduced Kemi to the complainant as his sister.

He also said that during police investigations, it was discovered that Victor took the baby and kept her in a building near an orphanage in Gwagwalada.

The prosecutor said that the offences committed by the accused persons, contravened sections 179, 273 and 238 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the two shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years or option to pay a fine or both.

Victor and Ogbole pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence.

The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 each with a credible surety in like sum.

The case has been adjourned to October 9, for hearing.
