One Ramoni Sobalaje, a 38-year-old cleric, was remanded in custody by Osun Senior Magistrates' Court on Tuesday for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Elisha Olusegun, told the court that Sobalaje committed the offence on July 15 at Tawakalitu Hall, Poly Junction, Iree, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused unlawfully and forcefully had carnal knowledge of the girl.
The offence contravenes section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun 2003 and section 31(2) of the Child Rights Law of Osun, 2007.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty.
Senior Magistrate Olusola Aluko ordered the accused to be remanded in Ilesha prison.
Aluko directed the defence counsel, Mr Seye Oluyombo, to file a formal bail application on behalf of his client.
The case was adjourned to Aug. 20 for further hearing.
