The Northern Senators’ Forum said it has resolved to commence dialogue with the Boko Haram group in order to find a lasting solution to increasing state of insecurity in the northern part of the country.
In a statement Wednesday, Chairman of the forum, Senator Umaru Dahiru, said it was obvious that the situation cannot be contained through military operation alone hence the need for stakeholders to resort to dialogue.
According to him, “All along, the Senators, not just of Northern extraction have been engaging the Executive and the channels are still not exhausted and we would continue to dialogue but we feel that it has become imperative to begin to reach out to Non-Governmental organizations and indeed those responsible for the violence to see reasons and embrace dialogue.”
The forum also spate of violence and killings in Plateau State and called for immediate cessation to all hostilities. It also expressed shock on the recent killings in the state during which one of its member; late Senator Gyang Dantong and other victims of the crisis died.
“We have witnessed terrorism and bloodshed the way we never thought possible in our peaceful country,” the forum said.
