As endless crisis rends the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), an Abuja High Court today ordered the summon of Olisa Metuh and Kema Chikwe as some aggrieved party members wants them sacked from the National Executive committee, a development which signals that the party’s internal troubles may be becoming intractable.
Metuh is the National Publicity Secretary of the party while Mrs. Chikwe, a former Minister of Aviation under President Olusegun Obasanjo, is a woman leader and member of the party’s Board of Trustees.
The court’s summon followed an interlocutory injunction sought by some aggrieved members of the South Eastern zone of the party, led by Nicholas Ukachukwu who stated in court documents that the South East congress that elected the duo was irregular.
Mrs. Chikwe, a President Goodluck Jonathan cheerleader, recently declared there was no vacancy in Aso Rock, the presidential seat of power, confirming not simply that the incumbent president would run, but in effect kicking off Jonathan’s campaign for a second term in office.
When contacted about the latest developments, Mr. Metuh said he was “unaware” of the court summon.
