The Coroner of the Dana Air crash inquest, Mr. Oyetade Komolafe, on Thursday warned that he might order their arrest if they continue to ignore its summons.
The coroner, who spoke at Thursday’s sitting of the inquest, said the court’s sheriff had made contacts with the airline’s officials on the summons but they had failed to appear at its sittings.
“The sheriff has been at their office several times. Let me remind you, and I think they should be informed, that the coroner has the powers to order the arrest of anyone that is summoned and is not around. A publication has been made; so they can’t say they are not aware,” he said.
The inquest is probing the circumstances surrounding the June 3, 2012 crash of the airline’s MD83 aircraft, which was on a scheduled flight from Abuja to Lagos.
The airline crashed into four buildings in Iju Ishaga, Lagos, killing all 163 passengers and crew and about four persons on the ground.
At Thursday’s sitting, there were representatives of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Femi Falana and Olisa Agbakoba Chambers, police, civil defence as well as lawyers to the residents of the affected area and victims.
