Ekiti Varsity Expels 5 Students Over Rape

Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, has expelled five male students for allegedly raping a female student of the institution.

The expulsion was announced in a statement made available to our correspondent in Ado Ekiti on Sunday by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations of the university, Mr. Ajibade Olubunmi.

Two of them are 300 level students of the Department of Psychology; one is a 300 level student of Accounting; and another a pre-degree student.

However, the statement was silent on the identity of the last one.

The statement added, “They (the five students) have also been dragged before a court of law. The criminals were arrested on Thursday, March 7, 2013, through a concerted effort of EKSU Security men, the Nigerian Police, and youths from Iworoko Ekiti, a neighbouring town.

“Their expulsion was sequel to the report of the university’s Disciplinary Committee, headed by Prof. W. O. Adebayo, which tried them.”

The university urged parents to show more interest in who their children moved together with to avoid being lured into crime.

The deputy registrar said the university, under the administration of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oladipo Aina, would do everything to flush the bad eggs from the institution.

Meanwhile, the vice chancellor has warned students of the university against involvement in cultism.

The VC gave this warning during the matriculation ceremony students of EKSU studying under an affiliate programme with Ogunsanya College of Education, Otto/Ijanikin, Lagos on Saturday.
