Nigerian Heroin Smuggler Executed in Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia - Indonesian authorities have executed a Nigerian convicted of drug smuggling.

Attorney General Office spokesman Untung Arimuladi said that Adami Wilson was shot dead by a firing squad Friday in Pulau Seribu, an island chain off the northern coast of the capital Jakarta.

A court near Jakarta sentenced Wilson to death in 2004 after he was found guilty of smuggling one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of heroin into the country.

Last year, he was found to be behind the trafficking of 8.9 kilograms of crystal methamphetamines from inside the prison while on death row.

More than 140 people are on death row in Indonesia, mostly for drug crimes and about a third of them are foreigners.

Arimuladi said nine other convicts are to be executed this year.
