Some suspected hemp dealers in Ede town of Osun State shot a policeman in an attempt to rescue their colleague in a hospital.
The trouble started when one of the suspects, Ismaila, suspected his colleague Abiodun Wahab was having an affair with his wife.
According to reports, an angry Ismaila, on Thursday reported Wahab’s India hemp dealings to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Members of Wahab’s gang, who were annoyed about Ismaila’s action, attacked him, and a fight broke out.
Residents at Anjorin compound, venue of the clash, flee when hell was let loose by the rampaging fighters.
Several persons such as Ismaila’s relatives Adedigba and Rilwan, who were injured were taken to an unnamed hospital in the state.
Wahab was later arrested by the police and taken to the same hospital for treatment because of the injuries he sustained in the bloody fight.
Wahab’s gang member later invaded the hospital, where they shot one policeman, who was on guard and rescued their colleague, Wahab, while they abducted Adedigba and Rilwan.
Police Public Relations Officer, Osun Command, Mrs Sade Odoro, said Wahab and Adedigba have been rearrested, adding that the injured policeman had been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
She said, “A full investigation into the issue has been launched by the Commissioner of police, Osun Command, Mrs Dorothy Gimba.”
