Yesterday, Sokoto State governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko maintained that the N50m agric loan to be given to each local government was not meant for politicians. He stated that it was rather to encourage genuine dry season farmers.
Wamakko made the clarification at the Government House while inaugurating committees for each of the local government. He specifically noted the committee will be held responsible for recovering the loans at the required time.
While urging the committee members to discharge their responsibility with the fear of God, Wamakko maintained that the committee consists of people of high integrity.
According to Wamakko, the loan is meant for real and genuine dry season farmers to help improve the rice, garlic, tomato and other vegetable production capacity of the state.
He cautioned the committee to be diligent in the disbursement of the loan, adding that they should be wary of influential people who might turn farmers by proxy just to benefit from what is ordinarily meant for identified genuine dry season farmers across the 23 local governments of the state.
