Court Remands Beggar For Stealing A Pair Of Trousers

An Abuja Senior Magistrate Court Wednesday sentenced a beggar, Sani Abubakar to six months imprisonment for stealing a pair of trousers. Abubakar of Mashi village, Katsina State, was convicted for contravening Section 288 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Cpl. Emmanuel Adikwu said that the case was reported at Maitama Police Station by one Brambaifa Kennedy of Wuse 2 on July 23.

He said the accused entered the premises of the complainant and stole a pair of trouser that was spread on a line, adding that the trouser was later recovered from him during police investigation. The accused however pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for mercy.

Magistrate Ann Akobi ruled that the law must take its course and the culprit punished to serve as a warning to him and to others like him. She therefore sentenced him to six months imprisonment but with an option of N2,000 as fine.
