The Ondo State Government in Akure on Friday donated 32,000 books to 27 public secondary schools in the 18 local government areas.
The Commissioner for Education, Mr Olajide Adejuyigbe, said while presenting the books to the schools that the state government bought the materials in collaboration with Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
Adejuyigbe said the materials were meant to enhance effective teaching, learning and research in public schools.
He said subsequent materials would be distributed in batches till all public secondary schools in the state were covered.
The commissioner said the state government was committed to the attainment of optimal service delivery in education through systematic monitoring and evaluation of intellectual development.
“Education is the key to the development and sustenance of the economic, social and political growth of any society,” he said.
Adejuyigbe urged principals of the benefiting schools to ensure that the materials were well utilised and made accessible to the student.
He also urged the students to make the best use of the materials for their educational advancement.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Taiwo Kolawole said the materials would make positive impact in the performance of students.
