Bayelsa Police Command Arrests Suspected Cultist And Murderer

An alleged notorious cultist in Bayelsa state, Nengi Ikiba has been arrested by the Bayelsa State Police Command.

Ikiba is said to have admitted to be the founder of the Icelanders Cult Group in Rivers state and later the Greenlanders in Bayelsa.

However he fell apart with some members of both groups he had recruited due to some irreconcilable differences, the command said.

The alleged cultist was presented to journalists earlier today at the state police headquarters in Yenagoa by the commissioner of police.

The commissioner had earlier on addressed a press briefing stating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Nengi Ikiba.

Meanwhile a member of the gang that killed 12 policemen on April 6th 2013 has been arrested alongside two young men in possession of stolen tricycle and other electronic gadgets.

Mr. Ikiba on his part when quizzed by journalists on the allegation of being a cultist refuted the allegation but later accepted making the confessional statement.

He further said he made the confession because he was pressured. He however failed to explain how he was pressured as he confirmed that the security officials did not torture him.

A statement by the state government and by the signed special adviser to the governor on security matters, Lt. Col Bernard Sunday Kenibai (Rtd) said the arrest would serve as a deterrent to his likes, stating that its declaration of war against cultism and other related vices has begun to yield dividend.

Describing the arrest of Ikiba as a welcome development, the state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson said his administration would not condone any act of criminality.

Commending the efforts of the police and other security operatives in the state, the governor disclosed that the government is investing heavily on security, adding that this is the only way to attract both local and foreign investors to the state.
