400-level Obafemi Awolowo University, Oyinlola Rotimi accused of attempting to flush her baby down the toilet after delivery has named the baby Nifemi, Okikiola.
Apparently the accusations were wrong as the school authority and Rotimi herself explained that wasn't her intention but because of her lack of experience.
The 22-year-old mother, studying Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, had earlier said the circumstances that surrounded the delivery of her baby made her “a celebrity” and joy at the birth of the baby, describing her experience as “unforgettable”.
She also said definitely she would have another baby but of course “not so soon”.
It was gathered that the naming of the baby was low-key due to the examination going on in the school.
One of Rotimi’s friends, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Wednesday night, said Rotimi was “extremely happy” at the naming.
She said, “Today(Wednesday) is one of the days I have seen my friend looking so happy, she is extremely joyous. Although, this is not the actual way we planned it. We should have celebrated more than this if not for the fact that examination is ongoing.
“Most of our colleagues are taking exam and that is the major reason for the small celebration. I am hopeful that when the baby clocks one, we will celebrate it in a bigger way because he is our boy.”
Some OAU students, who were not present for the naming ceremony ceremony later organized another ceremony, where they named the baby Prof. Bamitale Omole after the Vice Chancellor of the university.
A pastor was appointed by the students to organize the christening.
Among the names the students gave the baby are Oriyomi, Omomoremi, Oluwanimilo, Titilayo, Eniolorunopa, Bamitale Omole.
The father of the baby, a 400-level student of Engineering in OAU, Oyewole Samuel, however, has refused to comment on the development as one who pleaded anonymity, explained that the father was not happy with the controversy that surrounded the birth of his baby.
He said, “He does not like the controversy and the noise about the birth of the baby. He is a cool person and does not like publicity.”
