Zidane retired as a player after the 2006 World Cup but he has been filling a variety of roles with the Spanish giants over the last four years.

The Frenchman was appointed advisor to Real president Florentino Perez back in 2009 and then took an advisory role under Jose Mourinho, who left the club for Chelsea earlier this month, before becoming Sporting Director.

"He has experience and he will be a very good assistant," Ancelotti said of Zidane.

"He will be beside me on the bench, the only problem is he won't be able to play.

"Zizou was a fantastic player, everybody knows him, now he has decided to be a coach. I am very happy to work at his side. He will be a very good assistant, along with my usual assistant Paul Clement.

"We have been to the training ground, it's fantastic. Everything that we need is there. I think this is going to be a very good project. I have the support of the club, the president and the fans, so I think this will be a very happy season for Real Madrid."
