Gunmen on Monday raided a popular hotel in Ajao Estate, Lagos and stole millions of naira and dollars belonging to the management and customers in the hotel.
The hotel identified as May Hotel located at 22 Kaara street, Ajao Estate was robbed around 2:00am and the robbery lasted for more than two hours with the robbers carrying sophisticated weapons.
The hotel management and residents were shocked on how the robbers gained access into the area as it is a well protected area.
The robbers carted away with money, leaving other belongings.
According to an eyewitness account, the armed gang came from Inua Mohammed Street in Ajao Estate and broke the street gate locks.
The unarmed security guards and receptionists in the hotel were held at gunpoint and the receptionists were forced to lead them from room to room to rob the lodgers
“They did not shoot any bullet but seized the guards and the receptionists and ordered them to cooperate with them while the operation lasted”.
After the operation, the receptionists and guards were locked in one of the rooms in the hotel.
Some of the workers who confirmed the incident said that they were still in shock over what happened and said the robbery might be the work of an insider who provided information to the attackers.
At Ajao Police Division, the DPO was not available to comment on the matter.
But a source at the station confirmed the incident and said the police have commenced investigation on the matter.
