The police has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a Peoples Democratic Party member, Kunle Olagoke, who was killed in Ipetumodu, Osun state on Sunday.
Mrs Dorothy Gimba, Commissioner of Police, Osun Command said the investigation into the case which happened on Sunday had begun. Hence the arrest of the two suspects.
Olagoke was shot dead during a PDP Ward 1 meeting at Local Authority Primary School in Ipetumodu after some members of the party stormed the venue and attempted to take away the book in which minutes of the meeting were written.
One of the factions is led by the party’s Chairman in Ife-North, Mr Lekan Obisakin, while the other is led by Mr Sam Oyebade.
It was gathered that trouble started at 4pm during the Ward 1 meeting on Sunday when some people stormed the meeting by Obisakin faction and shot several times into the air.
Obisakin said, “Some people stormed the meeting and attempted to take away the book being used to take the minutes. One of the persons that took the book wore a mask.”
Publicity Secretary, Osun PDP, Mr Bola Ajao, said the state secretariat of the party had not been briefed over the matter, adding that the matter would be investigated by the state executive council of the party.
