Curry bagged 54 points, more than half his side's total, adding seven assists and six rebounds while playing all 48 minutes.

But the Knicks, led by 35 points from Carmelo Anthony and 28 rebounds from Tyson Chandler, spoiled his big night as they went ahead in the closing stages and held on.

Curry's effort, which also contained 11 three-pointers, was the best in the NBA since Kobe Bryant scored 58 in December, 2006.

Kevin Durant bagged his third triple-double as the Oklahoma City Thunder overwhelmed the New Orleans Hornets 119-74.

Durant had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, while Russell Westbrook led the offence with 29 points for the Thunder's third straight win.

The Memphis Grizzlies extended their winning streak to eight in dramatic fashion, rallying from 25 points down in the second quarter to beat the Dallas Mavericks 90-84.

Zach Randolph scored 22 points and Marc Gasol added 21 for the Grizzlies, while Shawn Marion paced the Mavericks with 16.

Monta Ellis scored 27 points - including the winning three-pointer off balance from 27 feet just before the buzzer - and dished out 13 assists to lift the Milwaukee Bucks to a 110-107 win over the Houston Rockets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers shrugged off the absence of Kyrie Irving to beat the Toronto Raptors 103-92 and make it two wins out of two without their injured All Star.

The Sacramento Kings beat the Orlando Magic 125-101, the Atlanta Hawks saw off the Utah Jazz 102-91 and the Denver Nuggets were 111-109 winners over the Portland Trail Blazers.
