The Commissioner of Lands and Survey in Plateau State, Mr. Yilji Gomwalk, said that the State Government would as from July, 2013 begin the collection of ground rents from land owners in Plateau State.
According to him, the measure was part of the State Government's effort to improve its internally generated revenue (IGR), adding that his Ministry had begun the enumeration of all landed properties in order to facilitate easy collection of such rents from land owners across the state.
The further disclosed that the on-going enumeration exercise would enable the state government to ascertain the number of land owners and structures as contained in certificates of occupancy (C of Os).
Mr. Yilji Gomwalk enjoined the public especially the land owners to give their maximum support to his Ministry for the smooth take off of the enumeration and land rent collection exercise.
In addition, he said Government Jonah David Jang's desire was to generate good revenue that would enable him discharge his administration developmental plans for the Plateau people. His words, "The ground rents would go a long way in enabling him fulfill such plans".
According to the Commissioner, mobile courts had been established for the purpose of prosecuting defaulters.
