The Minister of Internal Affairs, Comrade Abba Moro has disclosed that the Federal Executive Council has approved new visa policy to serve as veritable tool for achieving the Transformation agenda of President Jonathan and the Vision 20:2020, the objective of which is to quicken economic development by encouraging job creation and to boost tourism.
Comrade Abba Moro, the Minister of Interiors announced this at 2013 Ministerial Platform while presenting his Ministry's score card for the last two years.
The Minister said that before the introduction of the policy, fraudsters took advantage of the leakages in the processing of visas, and created unnecessary bottlenecks for the process of issuance of visa at the points of entry.
He added that with the new visa policy, notable businessmen who travel frequently and top management staff of multinational organizations are being issued entry visa at the points of entry.
To reduce the suffering of Nigerians in the Diaspora in the process of procuring passports and to secure our passport from fraudsters, Nigeria Immigration Service has introduced the e-passport in conformity with international best practices. This, the Minister said, has placed the country on a higher rating and ensures the integrity of the Nigerian passports. Nigerian passport, he said, can now be issued within three days, after the online processing.
As for Prison management, the Minister said that in order to achieve the reform mandate, the Ministry has embark on training programmes for the inmates to enable him fit into society. To address the issue of prison congestion, the Minister said, that some measures have been taken to construct standard prisons in different parts of the country.
The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku in his remarks earlier that the platform, appreciates the Minister of Interior as he is organizing a lot of training in the prisons to make the prisoners useful to the society when they come out.
