Rafael Nadal is expected to skip the forthcoming BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells and the Miami Masters.
The Spaniard is trying to manage his return from a knee injury which kept him off the court for seven months.
The 11-time Grand Slam champion is currently competing at the Acapulco Open and spoke of his concerns for his left knee on his arrival in Mexico.
"It's better and I've been able to compete but it's still bothering me," he said.
"It's better on some days and worse on others, which isn't ideal for someone like me, because my idea of competing is based on giving it all at all times."
The world No 5 is expected to go straight from Mexico to the Masters Series event in Monaco in April as he prepares for the clay court season.
