A community group called Izon Ikemi has announced their approval for President Goodluck Jonathan to run for the Presidency in the 2015 general elections.
A communique issued by the group comprising Nigeria citizens of Ijaw extraction, within and beyond the Niger Delta states, re-affirmed its commitment to the principles of rule-of-law, democracy, equity and justice as a precondition for the enthronement, and sustainability, of good governance, peace, stability and progress in Nigeria.
They espoused the Dr. Jonathan’s right to compete for the office of the Presidency according to the provisions of the constitution
“Izon Ikemi strongly reiterates President Jonathan’s right to contest for a second term in office as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, should he desire to exercise that constitutional rights. Democratic principles and practices, alone, must be allowed to reign supreme, always, in determining who occupy elective public office…NOTHING else.”
They also called on Dr. Jonathan to jettison every dead weight in his administration that doesn’t serve the common good of Nigerians.
“Izon Ikemi calls, for the last time, on President Jonathan expedites the jettisoning of all deadweight in his Cabinet and other FGN MDAs, that are not serving the Common Good of Nigerians efficiently, transparently, accountably and patriotically, so as not to force Izon Ikemi to team up with any other agents of Good Governance to employ any legitimate means to rid this otherwise well-meaning administration of its bad eggs.”
