Swiss side FC Sion have appointed Gennaro Gattuso as their player-manager, following the demotion of former boss Victor Munoz.
Gattuso, 34, joined the club as a player after leaving AC Milan last summer but has earned a promotion, with Munoz losing his job after the 4-0 defeat to Thun on Sunday.
The former Getafe boss, who only took over the reins last month, is expected to take up scouting duties with the club.
"Until further notice, the players will manage their activities themselves," a club statement read.
Gattuso will be Sion's fifth manager of the season and takes over a side currently lying fourth in the Swiss top division. His first match in charge will see Sion visit Lausanne in the Swiss Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.
The midfielder has represented Italy on 73 occasions, as well as playing for Milan 335 times.
