Senate Should Save Nigeria From Collapse - Ojudu

A member of the Senate Committee on Defence and Army, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, has reminded the Upper Chamber of the need to use its powers to do something drastic, no matter how painful, about the fundamental issues that are threatening to tear Nigeria apart.

Ojudu, who was reacting to the killing of the Senator representing Plateau North, Dantong Gyang Dalyop, and the Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Gyang Filani, at a mass burial in Barkin-Ladi local government area of the State, said the Senate should not at this time concern itself with superficial issues while there are fundamental ones that if not addressed frontally may tear the already thin fabric of the country.

He said the Senate should start exercising its full powers by making sure that whoever is saddled with the responsibility of providing security for Nigerians at the highest level and has failed to responsibly do so, is booted out, adding that this is not a time for political considerations and calculations, but a time to salvage whatever is left of Nigeria’s battered well-being.

The Senate, Ojudu maintained, has the constitutional power and a duty to Nigerians to do this to prevent the country from going down, stressing that posterity will not forgive the legislature if it fails to rescue the country from ineptitude at this time.

Ojudu said the tribe or religion of whoever rules Nigeria does not matter, rather his ability to perform his constitutional duty of ensuring the well-being of Nigerians and Nigeria is what matters.

Ojudu said, failing to do so, the Senate can make such a person to step aside for a more competent person to take over, rather than further plunging the country into a deeper abyss.
