An Abuja Senior Magistrate Court yesterday sentenced a mother of one, Maimuna Al-Hassan of Angwa Beri Beri, Life Camp, Abuja to 150 days imprisonment for conspiracy and causing hurt.
Prosecutor Simon Emmanuel told the court that one Awwalu Muhammad of Kado village, FCT, reported the case to Life Camp Police Station on July 12.
Emmanuel said that on the said date, the accused took seven boys (all at large) to the complainant’s house and beat him up, after a misunderstanding. The prosecutor said the boys used a cutlass on the complainant, and as a result, he sustained a deep cut on his head.
He added that in the process, the complainant’s Nokia phone valued at N7,000 and N22,000 cash got missing and that the acts contravened Sections 79 and 245 of the Penal Code.
“The complainant was taken to the hospital, where he also spent N7,000 on medical treatment,” the prosecutor added. The accused, who pleaded guilty, said thus: “I am pleading for mercy, I am a widow and mother of one.”
Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Ilelah said that the accused should be punished to serve as a lesson to the entire public and sentenced her to 150 days imprisonment with an option of N5,000 fine.
