The Ekiti State House of Assembly on Friday passed the three billion naira supplementary budget presented by Governor Kayode Fayemi.
The governor had presented the budget to the lawmakers in view of the prevailing economic difficulties facing the state’s ministries, departments and parastatal agencies.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the lawmakers had earlier approved N89.5 billion as the state government’s budget for the 2012 fiscal year.
Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Ayodele Odu, said with the supplementary appropriation, the state’s budget had increased from N89.5 to N92.5 billion.
He said the total appropriation for 2012 consisted N43.8 billion for capital expenditure and N48.7 billion for recurrent expenditure. Odu said the proposed estimates of the ministries, departments and parastatal agencies were thoroughly scrutinised by the house committee before considering their fresh requests.
He called on the executive to ensure transparency in the spending of the approved budget in order to meet the set targets. The Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, however, said the lawmakers would proceed on a four-week recess from July 9.
