The Taraba State Police Command has arrested four persons in connection with last Tuesday’s attacks in Wukari, in which gunmen numbering over 30 destroyed Police Area Command, a police station, and raided three banks.
Police spokesman in the state, DSP Amos Olaoye, who confirmed the arrest, said investigation is underway, and that once it is completed the suspects will be charged to court.
Daily Trust learnt that the manager of one the banks that was raided, was killed and about N1.5 million carted away, just as N27 million was taken from the second bank.
A source at the Wukari Local Government Area said six persons were killed in the attacks which lasted several hours, but police have maintained that only three were killed.
Chairman of the local government area, Mr. Danazunmi Agbu, said the attacks have brought Wukari down on its knees as commercial activities have been crippled. He said the raided banks were the biggest in Wukari, and that their destruction has affected workers and traders alike.
