The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has presented relief materials to the victims of windstorm in two local government areas of Sokoto State with a call on the people of the state to imbibe the culture of disaster risk reduction by embarking on planting of trees to mitigate windstorm and rainstorm disaster.

Several houses and domestic animals were destroyed at Fakku and Gudirrega in Yabo local government area and Dogon Daji town in Tambuwal local government area of the state.

NEMA Director General Muhammad Sani Sidi, who made the call at the presentation of the materials, stressed the need for them to give more emphasis on clearing existing drainages to allow for free flow of water in case of heavy rain.

Items presented were 1000 pieces of planks, 500 bundles of roofing sheets, 300 bags of cement, 50 packets of zinc nails and 50 bags of roofing nails.
