Yobe Compensates Boko Haram Victims With N187 Million

The Yobe State Government on Thursday, approved the sum of N187 million as compensation for victims of recent Boko Haram attacks in the state.

N259 million was also allocated WAEC, NECO fees. 

This was revealed to newsmen by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Goni Fika, who said the decision was taken at an executive council meeting of the state government.

He added that another N259 million was approved for the payment of WAEC and NECO fees for all students in its public schools.

Mr. Fika, who spoke shortly after the council meeting chaired by the Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, said the council acted based on the Assessment Report of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

He revealed that the SEMA report stated that 99 persons were killed across the state this year while 135 others were either injured or their houses burnt during the attacks.

“Yobe Government has today approved the sum of N187.4 million as assistance to those whose houses were burnt and the people innocently killed by unidentified gunmen or bomb blasts in the state,” Mr. Fika said.
