Man Confesses Renting Shop At Jabi To Sell Stolen Phones

A 25-year-old man on Saturday confessed to Men of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) that he rented a shop at Jabi, mainly to sell stolen phones.

Sagir Usman, who was picked up by SARS officials after a tip off, confessed that he buys handsets from phone snatchers and resells them in his shop. The suspect named one Mustapha, who sells at Central Mosque, as one of those who usually brings stolen phones for him to sell but said he had to do away with him because of his robbery attitude.

“I stopped entertaining him in my shop until one Nasir came into the picture. Nasir steals phones especially China phones and I sell them for him. I am not the one robbing, I only buy from them,’’ he confessed.

He said it was the same Nasir who reported him to SARS officials because he sold the blackberry phone he gave to him at a lower rate. “Can you imagine, this guy went and reported me to SARS that I was the one stealing the phones and selling them just because I sold the blackberry phone he gave to me cheaply,’’ he said.

The SARS official who arrested the suspect, Corporal Abdullahi Musa, described the boys as members of the notorious syndicate who steal phones from people and resell them to unsuspecting public. “We have arrested some of them and we are trying to arrest the remaining suspects before we can ascertain their level of involvement in the crimes,’’ he said.
