Top army officers yesterday assembled in Abuja to discuss ways on improving their operational capabilities in the war on terror and their role in the current African led International Support Mission to Mali (AFISMA).
Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika said at the conference that officers will appraise their operational challenges, past achievements and make future plans on domestic effort in tackling terror attacks and the peace support operation in Mali. “We shall have heart-to-heart discussion with officers assuming new responsibilities following the recent promotions and posting.” “We have enjoyed our recent operation with the SSS in Kano that led to the arrest of the man that attacked the Emir of Kano. We recovered assault rifles from his house,” he said.
He said the army received the offer for cease-fire from a segment of the terrorist groups with “happiness” and the “matter is being discussed now at political level.”
