CSKA Moscow's Ahmed Musa on Saturday joined the growing list of Nigerian players that have won trophies with their foreign clubs this season as his team ended their seven-year wait to win the Russian Premier League title.
Musa, who was handed a starter's shirt by his Moscow-based club, fired blanks on Saturday, but, nonetheless, his team emerged champions on the back of a scrappy 0-0 home draw with Kuban Krasnodar as they needed just one point to seal the League title.
The latest achievement is the first league crown for CSKA since 2006 and 11th in the club's history as they now lead last season's champions Zenit St Petersburg by six points going into the last day of matches in Russia.
Efe Ambrose with Glasgow based Celtic FC, Vincent Enyema in Israel are some of the Nigerian super stars to be crowned League Champions this season.
While the League crown is in the kitty already, Musa will rue the myriad of chances that he failed to convert in Saturday's fixture as he and his Brazilian striking partner, Vagner Love, were the biggest culprits to deny the Champions all three points.
Musa is in the run for a double as CSKA are still in contention for the Russian Cup.
Congratulatory messages are already pouring in for the pacey forward who at one time held the record of the highest number of goals scored in a season in the Nigeria Premier League while still playing for Kano Pillars.
Musa's Super Eagles teammate, Elderson Echiejile, who helped Sporting Braga end their 47 year-long trophy drought by defeating FC Porto in the Portuguese League Cup Final, on Saturday expressed his happiness for seeing another Nigerian winning the league with his club.
"9ja player just they lift trophy! Ahmed musa congratulation ohhh!!!," Echiejile wrote on his Twitter page.
