An early morning inferno yesterday gutted the Osogbo branch of the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) destroying valuable property. Although, it could not be ascertained whether or not the money deposited in the bank was lost to the inferno, it was gathered that the fire destroyed many valuable items belonging to the bank.
An eyewitness told our reporter at the scene of the incident that the fire was caused by electrical surge inside one of the offices in the bank. It was gathered that the fire, which started from an inner office in the bank later spread to other parts of the bank premises including the main banking hall.
However, no official of the bank was available to give details of the property and money lost to the inferno and officials of the state Fire Servicemen, who were busy putting off the fire did and didn't give any comments to journalists.
It was gathered that the bank might not open for operation until proper reports of the incident was done and the bank inspected by officials from its headquarters in Lagos.
