The Ogun State Police Command has arrested six persons in connection with the mayhem that occurred at the trailer park of Dangote Cement Factory in Ibese, Yewa North local government area of the state yesterday.
The six were said to be members of a group, which allegedly set ablaze about 16 trucks, belonging to the Dangote Group, during a scuffle which ensued between trailer drivers and miscreants over the custodian of a popular commercial sex worker.
Speaking with National Mirror in a telephone interview, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest, debunked the rumour that the dispute was between the Hausa and Yoruba as erroneously speculated.
Adejobi stressed that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikhemefuna Okoye, made an on-the-spot assessment to the area to ascertain the degree of damage.
He added that no life was lost to the mayhem.
The PPRO said the CP had met with the youths leaders and traditional rulers of Ibese community where the paramount ruler of Yewaland and Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Adegbenle, was also in attendance as well as the management of Dangote Cement Factory to find solutions to the crisis.
The police, however, maintained that those arrested would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded on the matter.
