Police Arrest Youths Over Murder Of Lagos Chief

Following the murder a Lagos White Cap Chief, Chief Kayode Adeshina, the Onimole of Lagos by unidenfied gunmen at his palace yesterday, the police stormed the area and started indiscriminate arrest of youths.

A source told policemen from Ebute-Ero began to arrest youths in Isale Eko area and its environs hours after the chief was killed.

The identities of those arrested could not be ascertained at press time.  White cap chiefs yesterday held a closed door meeting over the gruesome murder of their colleague.

Chief Adeshina was killed at about 3 a.m. in his palace at 5, Onimole Palace, Iga-Iduganran Street, Isale Eko, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

The meeting which was held behind closed doors at the palace, lasted several hours.

When P.M.NEWS met some of the chiefs for comment on the kiling of Chief Adeshina after the meeting, they refused to comment. They however assured that a statement would be issued on the killing at the appropriate time.

One of them who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said a comment on the murder now will be a disrespect to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, who is already aware of the killing. “We are waiting for him (Oba Akiolu) to react first before saying anything to the media.

“The police have taken over the matter and investigation is ongoing. This is a very sensitive issue and we cannot say anything for now until the police comes out with the report of their investigation.

Meanwhile, all the shops on Iga-Iduganran Street were closed as a mark of respect to the white cap chief.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umaru Manko, confirmed the killing, adding that the chief was rushed to the General Hospital, Lagos, but did not survive the shooting.

According to the police commissioner, one shotgun cartridge was recovered from the scene of the shooting.

Manko said he would soon brief newsmen on the initial findings of police detectives on the killing.
