The Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola has launched 50 state-of-the-art ambulance vehicles as part of the state’s Ambulance Service Scheme tagged O’ Ambulance.
Speaking in Osogbo the state capital, Governor Aregbesola identified poor emergency management as the major cause of deaths in many road accidents.
While launching the vehicles, 19 of which were procured by the state government and 31 by local government councils, Governor Aregbesola maintained that the deplorable state of major highways in the country is responsible for most of the road accidents, but added that if responses to these accidents had been prompt, many deaths would have been averted.
The Commissioner for Health, Temitope Ilori disclosed that the Ambulance scheme is a “stand-alone service” that is not attached to any of the nine state hospitals, adding that the vehicles will be stationed in strategic locations across the state for prompt and effective service delivery.
