Suspected armed robbers, in the early hours of Wednesday, attacked a team of police officers at Bajulaiye, Somolu, killing one officer and wounding three others.

It was gathered that the police officers, who were driving in a commercial bus, are attached to the Alade Police Station, Somolu, Lagos State.

Residents said that they heard fierce gun shots at around midnight.

Transport workers in the area said that a notorious car snatching gang operates at the Bajulaiye axis, decrying the continuous “hijacking” of their buses by police officers who use them to patrol the streets.

A police source told that the gun men were driving a white Murano Utility Jeep when they attacked the police team at Church Bus Stop, Bajulaiye.

The names of the wounded officers are Sergeant Ogoigbe Egugoje, Corporals Iyang, and Monday Efoma.

Corporal Gabriel Bissong was shot dead.

The wounded police officers, it was learnt, were initially taken to the General Hospital at Oguntolu, Somolu, before they were transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba.
