U.S. - A man who experienced a nearly constant runny nose was actually leaking brain fluid through his nostrils.
Joe Nagy of Arizona had suffered from a seemingly endless runny nose. Doctors figured it was just a bad case of allergies, but Nagy's symptoms were unaffected by medications.
Fed up with having the clear liquid constantly dribbling out his nose, he eventually went to a specialist who tested the fluid. Nagy discovered it was actually brain fluid, not mucous from the nose, that was leaking. He was suffering from a rare condition known as a spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leak.
"I was scared to death if you want to know the truth," he said.
Making matters worse, Nagy came down with a case of meningitis before having surgery to correct the leak. Thankfully, doctors were able to get the potentially deadly inflammatory disorder of the brain under control and successfully patched the leak.
"I was waiting for the dribble. I was so used to it every day. I got my hankie. Nothing. It's never come back," Nagy said.
