An Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN] governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Dr.Olusegun Abraham has raised alarm over threat to his life. He has consequently urged the Inspector General of Police [IGP] to urgently call the ruling Labour Party[LP] government led by Dr.Olusegun Mimiko to order over the alleged plan to disrupt peace in the state Abraham at a press briefing in Akure specifically, alleged that Governor Mimiko has been sponsoring thugs to unleash violence on him and his supporters across the state.
According to him, some top government officials in the state are resolute to terminate his life, which he said he confirmed through text messages and anonymous calls on his mobile lines. He said sponsored political thugs had on two occasions attacked his convoy in Akure and Ikare Akoko respectively . The ACN aspirant said many of his supporters were severely injured and hospitalised.
Abraham said ” In one of the occasions,my convoy was attacked at FUTA junction in Akure penultimate weekend while on my way to attend late Adebayo Adefarati Fifth Memorial Lecture. “Two of my campaign buses were destroyed by the hoodlums who also inflicted injuries six supporters on my entourage”. He said it was the timely intervention of the security agents attached to Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi who was also on his way to the same even that rescued him from being attacked.
He cited several sections in the electoral act 2010 where it was stipulated that a political party should not torment another one, while party in power should not use its incumbency advantage to intimidate others. The ACN governorship aspirant lamented that Mimiko had ordered the management of the state-owned Radio Vision Corporation[OSRC] to black him out of its news and advertorial coverage on the “order from above”.
Abraham described the development as outright intolerance on the part of Mimiko’s administration, stressing that OSRC is being funded through tax payers’ money for the benefit of all and citizenry irrespective of political dichotomy. He said“ Mimiko sees me as a serious threat to his second term ambition even though we don’t belong to the same party. He is desperate to get me out by all means.
“Unexpectedly,he has sent thugs to attack me and my supporters for no reason. The thugs are paid to either kill me or frustrate me out of the race. “They removed my posters in the streets and pulled down my billboards in all places across the state, inspite of paying the necessary levy to the Synage Agency controlled by Mimiko’s kinsman, kolawole Olabisi.
Abrahim pointed out that they even sent a handwritten letter warning him to return to Lagos and withdraw from governorship race to face his business. He said the hoodlums attacked his campaign bus at Ikare Akoko, his home town last weekend and nearly killed one of his drivers,Mukaila Oriyomi a.k.a Kokori. According to him, he had petitioned the IGP on the matter and vowed to take legal actions if the threat to his life persists.
Abraham said“I am a man of peace.I can not rock the peace of my community, that was why I told my supporters to remain calm,my two buses damaged are now parked within the premises of Ikare police station. “But if they continue in this manner I may be forced to take legal option against the perpetrators and their sponsors.
“No reasonable politician who is concerned about the welfare and development of his people will go berserk this way because of inordinate ambition. Attempts to get in touch with the Police Public Relations Officer [PPRO] Adeniran Aremu, Deputy Superintendent of Police[DSP] on the petition were not successful.
