The Chairman of Jack-Rich Tien Foundation, Mr. Jack-Rich Tien, has urged the rich in the society to always remember the poor in order to give them a sense of belonging.
Tien spoke during an event on poverty alleviation where the foundation donated relief materials and cash to over 500 underprivileged in Kalabari Kingdom.
The kingdom comprises Asari-Toru, Degema and Akuku-Toru local government Areas of Rivers State.
The beneficiaries of the foundation’s initiaitive were widows, physically challenged and orphans from the three local government areas.
While presenting the gift items to the beneficiaries, Tien said the gesture was targeted at bringing smiles to the faces of the poor in the kingdom.
He said, “There is need for the less privileged in the society to be given a sense of belonging. The rich should always remember the poor.”
He added that the foundation had earmarked the sum of N20 million annually to assist the underprivileged in Kalabari Kingdom.
The funds, according to Tien, would be used to assist widows, orphans and the physically challenged within the kingdom.
He said, “The foundation will release N20m every year to reduce poverty in the three local government areas. It is necessary to recognise and assist the needy in our society.
“Not doing something to support them is a crime against God. Recognising the needy and doing something about them is what the foundation is all about.
“We need to be aware of what the widows, orphans and the physically challenged are going through in our society.
The Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Mr. Ojukaye Amachree, expressed gratitude to the foundation for its kind gesture to Kalabari Kingdom.
He appealed to everybody to join in the fight against poverty.
He pointed out that Tien’s gesture would go a long way to reduce the sufferings of the people.
