Court Slams N2m Bail On Taxi Driver

An Igbosere Magistrate Court, on Friday in Lagos, slammed conditional bail in the sum of N2 million on a taxi driver, Wasiu Wahab, for allegedly killing a passerby.

Wahab, 36, who resides at Ikota in Ajah area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and manslaughter, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, told the court that the accused had, on July 17, at Ikota-Ajah, opposite Total filling station on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, driven a Toyota Carina car with registration No. DR 04 AAA in a dangerous manner and killed Akeem Dauda, who was crossing the road.

Nwosu said that the deceased, who lived at No. 74, Bola Tinubu Way, Iju, had been buried according to Muslim rites.

According to him, the offence contravened Sections 18 and 39 (3) of the Road Traffic Act, Laws of Lagos State.

In her ruling, Magistrate Mulikat Alli-Balogun granted the accused bail in the sum of N2 million and the guarantee of two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case to August 9 for further hearing.
