FG Approves N3.5bn For New Varsities

In a determined effort to ensure the nine newly established federal universities take off with minimal hitch, the federal government has approved the sum of N3.5 billion to the universities to execute capital projects in their various temporary and permanent sites.

Minister of Education, Prof Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, who disclosed this Friday at Wukari during an assessment tour of the university said government is determined to ensure funding is not an impediment to the take off of the institutions by September this year.

Out of the amount, according to her, N1.5 billion has already been released to the nine universities as grants to execute projects on their take off sites which she revealed had already been utilized for renovation of sites donated by the host state governments for their take off slated for September.

Prof Ruqayyatu Rufai further disclosed that the remaining N2 billion would be expended by the universities for the development of the universities’ permanent site as soon as they are acquired saying the temporary sites would however remain properties of the universities.
